Pumpkin Smash
All lanterns and other pumpkins that cannot be eaten are welcome to the Pumpkin Smash at Stokes Wood Allotments Leicester. The smash will take place on 9th November on the Composting Demonstration site and will be composted on the site. If you bring your pumpkin you can smash it your self and put it on either a pallet compost bin, a plastic bin, Hotbin composter or a wormery. Bring the kids and introduce them to composting.
If you do not want to smash them yourself we will do it for you.
If you have an allotment please collect lanterns from other plot-holders and bring them along. Schools may also collect lanterns and either bring them to the site or we will collect them from you.
We will be making Christmas crafts from natural materials in the Community Building from 10:30 am to 12:30. Pumpkins will be accepted for the smash from 10 am on the day, left on site on any Wednesday morning. The pumpkins can be smashed during the craft event but we hope to hold the main smash from 12;30
Currently 18,000 tonnes of pumpkin waste end up in landfill every year. you can help reduce that amount.
