This weekend 15th and 16th june is the Bradgate Park Wildlife Weekend for those who are in the East Midlands. We will have a Composting stand and be helping kids to make Seedballs
The compost demonstration site at Stokes Wood allotment site in Stokes Drive, Leicesteris now open to the public between 10-12 on Wednesday mornings, when the site breakfast club is open, this offers the chance to see the site and have a good old fashioned English breakfast.

The site pavilion is available for hire by Garden Clubs, Allotment Societies and Schools for composting workshops and talks which include a tour of the site. It can also be hired for other events.

The recent blog on Plant Feeds was very popular so I have now added a page on Plant Feed Makers, as distinct from Compost Tea makers that already have a page. This addition is the result of my being introduced to the Hozelock BioMix. We had previously tested another Tea Maker at our composting demonstration site but had abandoned it in favour of the traditional methods of using a dustbin or bucket due to build quality issues. Having seen the quality of the Hozelock I will be adding it to the methods on display and asking plot holders to test the feeds made. Work is continuing on the preparation for the official opening of the Composting Demonstration site at Stokes Wood Allotment site at Stokes Drive, Leicester on 5th May.
The main path into the site has been covered in woodchip from the entrance past the pallet bins that will be used to receive and compost organic material from the allotment and the main display of plastic bins. It is hoped to have the area containing the tumbler bins woodchipped before the opening.

An Aerobin 400 has now been installed on the site. The insulated Aerobin is fitted with an aeration core inside a sealed and insulated bin to assist air circulation.
In addition to the opening, and tours, of the site there will be a talk on Home and Allotment Composting at 1pm followed by family activities including making seed balls and a compost safari from 2.30 -3.30. Refreshments will also be available in the site pavilion that is also available for hire.
